SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS

Purpose of Practicum

Engaging in a practicum in Vietnam will not only enhance my understanding of education but also immerse me in a rich cultural experience. encountering various teaching methods that differ from my home country, which can broaden my perspective on learning and pedagogy.

Making the most of my experience, consider the following:

1.      Cultural Immersion: Taking time to learn about Vietnamese culture, traditions, and values. This understanding will help me connect with students and teachers more effectively.

2.      Observe and Reflect: Paying attention to different teaching styles and classroom dynamics. Reflecting on what works well and what i might adapt for my future practice.

3.      Engage with Local Educators: Building relationships with local teachers and ask them about their approaches and philosophies. This could lead me to insightful discussions and collaborative opportunities.

4.      Participate Actively: Getting involved in classroom activities, whether through teaching or assisting. Hands-on experience is invaluable.

5.      Adaptability: Being open to new ideas and flexible in my approach. Different environments may require different strategies.

6.      Document Your Experience: Keeping a journal or blog to reflect on my experiences and lessons learned. This helps me synthesize my learning and may serve as a valuable resource in the future.

Procedure of Practicum

During my practicum at Future School in Vietnam, I was oriented on the school's history and its partnership with Germany and Dong Thap University. This background enriched my understanding of the educational context. My cooperating teacher was consistently present during my teaching demonstrations, providing valuable observations and feedback on my skills. I made it a point to arrive at the school five minutes early to check in and prepare my lessons, ensuring I was ready to engage with the students effectively. This proactive approach helped me feel more confident and organized as I navigated my teaching responsibilities.

Outcomes of Practicum

The overall outcome of my practicum was highly successful, as my students demonstrated a strong understanding of my discussions through their active participation in class. Their engagement not only indicated their comprehension but also created a vibrant learning environment. Additionally, my cooperating teacher provided positive feedback and a satisfying rating of my performance, which reinforced my confidence and growth as an educator. The atmosphere in my classroom was filled with happiness and positivity, making the experience rewarding for both me and my students.

The challenges of Practicum

Throughout my practicum, I faced several challenges that tested my adaptability and resilience. The first challenge was the language barrier; while my students understood my discussions in math and problem-solving, I often had to repeat questions and speak slowly to ensure comprehension. Despite this hurdle, their engagement made the experience successful. The second challenge involved navigating public transportation; I frequently waited up to 30 minutes at the bus stop, as the buses arrived unpredictably. Additionally, I needed to prepare translations on my phone since many drivers did not speak English. Despite these obstacles, the experience was wonderful and unforgettable, ultimately enriching my journey as an educator.

Overall Impression

My overall experience in Vietnam as an exchange student was amazing, unforgettable, and filled with excitement and new learnings. I gained valuable insights into the importance of responsibility and punctuality in my journey. I was particularly happy to explore new teaching methods and technologies that are highly useful in the classroom. If I teach in the future, I plan to apply what I’ve learned here, prioritizing a student-centered approach and fostering kindness, as I believe these qualities are essential for effective teaching. This experience has truly shaped my perspective and commitment to education.

Suggestions for future Improvements

For future improvements, I suggest that exchange students conduct research not only on the local culture but also on commonly used words and numbers in the language. This preparation can significantly ease the communication gap, which is often the first challenge encountered. Additionally, maintaining a positive attitude and believing in oneself is crucial for navigating any difficulties. Lastly, consistently applying politeness and kindness in interactions can foster better relationships and create a more welcoming atmosphere. These strategies will enhance the overall experience and make the journey even more enriching.

"Pursuing an international student exchange offers invaluable opportunities for cultural immersion, personal growth, and global connections."
